The Role

You will be responsible for the security, maintenance, and general upkeep of the school premises, ensuring the site is fully operational and compliant with all health and safety regulations.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Security & Access: Acting as a key holder for the school, performing daily opening and closing duties, conducting site security checks, and responding to fire/intruder alarm call-outs outside of normal hours when required.

  • Maintenance: Carrying out minor reactive and planned repairs across the site (e.g., basic plumbing, electrical safety checks, carpentry, painting, and maintenance of fixtures and fittings).

  • Health & Safety: Ensuring all pathways, especially during adverse weather (snow/ice), are safe. Monitoring utility systems (heating, lighting, water) and assisting with statutory compliance checks.

  • Supervision: Liaising with and monitoring external contractors to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently, in line with school procedures.

  • Cleaning Support: Undertaking basic cleaning duties, litter picking, managing waste disposal, and arranging the movement of furniture and equipment (porterage) for school events.

What We Are Looking For
  • Proven experience in a Caretaking, Facilities, or Site Management role, ideally within a school or similar educational/public sector environment.

  • A strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation.

  • Reliability, flexibility, and the ability to work independently.

  • Successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
