About the Role

As a Public Realm Operative – Level 2, you’ll play a vital role in keeping Nottingham clean, safe, and green. Working within our Waste Services team, you’ll carry out a variety of tasks including street cleansing, refuse and recycling collection, grounds maintenance, and seasonal support such as winter gritting. This is a hands-on role that requires flexibility, teamwork, and a commitment to high standards of customer care.

You’ll operate and maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles (up to 7.5 tonnes), ensuring safety and compliance at all times. The role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions, with shifts that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays. You’ll help create a cleaner, greener environment for our communities while representing the Council’s values of equality, diversity, and excellent service.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Health & Safety compliance: Understanding of health and safety requirements and ability to follow City Council standards.
  • Safe operation of tools and equipment: Knowledge of using hand tools, light power tools, and plant safely.
  • Vehicle operation: Knowledge of safe operation and maintenance of vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes gross weight, including daily checks.
  • Road safety awareness: Understanding of working safely in traffic environments
  • Correct manual handling: Ability to demonstrate safe lifting and carrying methods
  • A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.
