We are currently seeking enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Nurses with a passion for Emergency Nursing to join our friendly and supportive Emergency Department team.
While previous post-registration experience in an acute care setting is desirable, it is not essential. We welcome applications from newly qualified nurses or those who have gained experience in acute care either prior to or during training, and who are keen to develop their career within Emergency Nursing. Resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care are key qualities we are looking for.
Exciting developments are taking place within the Emergency Department at Newham and across the wider Trust. This includes the expansion of our Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) area, where our nurses rotate regularly to broaden their skills and experience.
Newham Emergency Department serves a large and diverse community, seeing an average of 400–500 patients each day. Our team provides care across a wide range of presentations, including acute medical conditions, paediatrics, and patients experiencing a mental health crisis.
If you are passionate about making a difference, eager to learn, and ready to take on the challenges and rewards of emergency nursing, we would love to hear from you.
1. Clinical Interventions: Administer medications, perform procedures (e.g., wound care, IV insertion, ECGs), and assist in emergency interventions (e.g., CPR, resuscitation).
2. Monitoring and Care: Monitor patient conditions, record observations, and update care plans.
3. Coordinating Care: Work with multidisciplinary teams for patient care, discharge planning, and referrals. Ensure appropriate esclation to Junior sister.
4. Patient Education: Provide information on conditions, treatments, and aftercare, ensuring patient advocacy.
5. Documentation: Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records.
6. Teamwork: Collaborate with doctors, consultants, and other ED staff for coordinated care.
7. Emergency Preparedness: Respond to trauma or mass casualty incidents, participating in training and drills.
8. Infection Control: Follow infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment.
9. De-escalation: Manage challenging situations with patients, including those with mental health or behavioral issues.
The role requires clinical skills, resilience, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.
The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.
We strive to live by our WeCare values and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. We value our differences and fully advocate, cultivate and support an inclusive working environment.
