Summary

Job Description

We are seeking a talented and experienced Second Chef to join our culinary team in Loughborough, United Kingdom. As the Second Chef, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Head Chef in managing kitchen operations, creating innovative menus, and maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation.

  • Assist the Head Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations and staff management
  • Develop and execute new menu items in collaboration with the culinary team
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain kitchen hygiene standards
  • Manage inventory, place orders, and control food costs
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff to improve their skills and efficiency
  • Prepare and cook high-quality dishes for service
  • Assist in menu planning and recipe development
  • Step in for the Head Chef when necessary
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of kitchen processes and procedures
  • Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service and customer satisfaction


Qualifications

  • Culinary degree or diploma from a recognized institution
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a professional kitchen, preferably in a high-volume restaurant or hotel setting
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within a kitchen environment
  • Strong culinary skills and expertise in various cooking techniques and cuisines
  • Excellent knowledge of food safety practices and current health and hygiene regulations
  • Valid food safety certification
  • Proficiency in menu planning, recipe development, and food presentation
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and team leadership abilities
  • Creativity and passion for culinary innovation
  • Physical stamina to work long hours in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Knowledge of dietary restrictions and ability to accommodate special meal requests
  • Proficiency in kitchen management software and inventory systems is a plus
