Job Title: SEN Learning Support Assistant (Short-Term Cover) – Colchester

Agency: TeacherActive

Location: Colchester, Essex

Contract: Short-term cover, until Christmas (through TeacherActive)

Salary: Competitive daily rate (dependent on experience)

About the role: TeacherActive are seeking an enthusiastic and committed SEN Learning Support Assistant to provide short-term support for pupils with additional learning needs in a Colchester-based school. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive difference during a busy term and gain valuable experience in a supportive, inclusive environment.

Key responsibilities:

• Support pupils with diverse learning needs in class, small groups, and 1:1 settings
• Assist with structured activities and differentiated learning plans
• Monitor and track pupil progress, reporting back to teaching staff
• Encourage independence, social development, and positive behaviour
• Support with personal care as required (in line with school policy)
• Assist with classroom management and risk assessment
• Contribute to inclusive practices and safeguarding procedures

Requirements:

• Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an SEN setting
• Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant; CACHE; SEN experience) are desirable
• Patience, resilience, and a proactive, flexible approach
• Good communication skills with pupils, parents, and staff
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupils’ welfare
• Ability to adapt to changing needs and cover different year groups as required
• DBS on the update service (or willing to obtain one through TeacherActive)
