About us
The SEN team is a great place to work if you are passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with additional needs. We currently have a vacancy for a deputy manager within our busy team, delivering Salford City Council's statutory responsibilities in relation to EHCP processes.

The SEN team co-ordinate the statutory assessment and review process, produce Education, Health & Care Plans, identify and commission appropriate provision. We want every child and young person aged 0- 25 with SEND to have the fullest opportunity to be happy, healthy, and achieve their full potential. Working closely with parents and other professionals from schools, health services, and social care, the team ensure that the special educational needs of children are met within the context of managing resources fairly and equitably.

About the Role
Key responsibilities:

To support the team managers in ensuring the SEN team fulfils the Council’s statutory duties towards children and young people with Education Health and Care Plans.

To provide management and professional support and supervision to Senior SEN caseworkers by monitoring quality and ensuring compliance with the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice.

To attend, and chair Panels as the LA decision maker, where statutory decisions are being made. To attend meetings across the LA to provide specialist SEN advice and recommendations to support statutory decision making, including working closely with a range of other LA teams.

To contribute to the strategic development and leadership of the team, including development of processes and protocols.

To oversee complex casework, including any specific financial implications e.g. personal budgets, and work with the commissioning team to support children and young people accessing settings outside of the LA

About you

As Deputy manager you will have

  • Detailed and in depth knowledge and practical interpretation of education and SEND legislation, guidance and best practice, local developments, and strategic priorities, including experience of effectively managing statutory processes.
  • Proven skills in managing effective involvement and partnership work with stakeholders, and the ability to provide professional challenge, to develop and improve outcomes.
  • The ability to be flexible and work under pressure with competing demands and priorities and have a good understanding of children’s services and the pressures that schools and other colleagues experience.
  • The ability to empower others, to provide expert advice and guidance. and to be able to increase skills and confidence in others.
