Summary

The job holder will play an essential role supporting the Head of Profession, Team managers and Senior Radiographers by facilitating education, training and practice development. They will ensure a high standard of education for all registered and unregistered radiology staff. The job holder will work in partnership with management and is responsible for implementing evidence-based, patient focused practice. They will in clinical areas with the staff to facilitate the development of skills in order to integrate education and practice development, thus enhancing quality care delivery from both the registered and unregistered workforce. The job holder will lead and facilitate audit and research and will function as a role model for staff within clinical areas, enabling and supporting the development of interdisciplinary and cross city working to ensure the sharing of good practice and delivery of high quality, effective and efficient care. They will be expected to use highly developed analytical and judgmental skills to interpret highly complex operator dependent images, accurately differentiating between normal and abnormal appearances and to take appropriate action as necessary. The post holder will work autonomously, take a lead role as part of a multi-disciplinary team and undertake all radiological and specialised imaging procedures within their area of expertise. To act as Operator, Practitioner and, where necessary, Referrer under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations, (IR(ME)R)2017). The post holder will adhere to the clinical imaging criteria of the Trust and the codes of conduct of the College of Radiographers and HCPC, whilst ensuring the best interests of the patient are maintained at all times, including acting as patients advocate as necessary. The post holder will take an active role in the further development of Radiographer role extension in an effort to increase the scope of practice of the profession as a whole and to improve the service to patients. Take a leading role in the development and implementation of work policies and protocols within the specialist area. Deputising for the Team Manager if required. To participate in the production of complex staffing rosters and workload. Plan and prioritise workload including liaison with other disciplines. To be responsible for setting and maintaining the standards for the radiographic service and ensuring junior staff comply with departmental and professional standards of practice. To encourage and develop all radiography staff by being responsible for monitoring their performance and implementing training and development programmes. To be able to use expert knowledge and clinical judgement to determine the alteration of an examination from the departmental protocols without consultation with Radiologists. To facilitate the education of other health professionals and possibly the general public, in health promotional activities and the uses of the different forms of radiological imaging modalities. Take a lead role in training within the specialist field. Collaborate with education providers in the co-ordination and delivery of clinical training for student radiographers, graduate radiographers and post graduate radiographers from within and external to the trust. The post holder may be required to organise, lecture or act as external examiner for undergraduate and / or post graduate courses both at LTH and outside. E.g. Universities. To assist in the development of Radiographer extended role initiatives and participate in the development of the Radiographer Assistant / Assistant Practitioner programme. To assist in the training of junior medical staff, particularly with regard to the technical and / practical aspects of specialised examinations. To provide safety training in specialist areas for staff both within and external to Radiology, e.g. ICU staff. In conjunction with Team Manager evaluate on-going clinical competence of radiographic staff as required. To formulate and review a comprehensive induction / training programme for all staff new to the specialist area. To be aware of innovations in techniques, equipment and applications in the field of radiography. Develop and evaluate educational programmes to ensure clinical areas are able to achieve and maintain an accredited educational learning environment for all students, registered and unregistered staff. Plan programmes of education and clinical skills for registered and un-registered staff to be implemented Trust wide. Planning needs to incorporate short, medium and long term education programmes. Adapt programmes for use as appropriate. Promote an effective learning environment within the workplace Ensure study leave policy is clearly articulated and managed in accordance with the Trusts Study Leave policy Support management in enabling performance development plans for groups and individual staff members. Support clinical areas and departments to develop evidence and competency based practice and research activities to further enhance patient care Co-ordinate, supervise and maintain records of all staff undertaking training Maintain detailed and accurate records regarding staff education, including monthly and quarterly report production Facilitate and deliver educational programmes on a range of subject matter. Work with management to ensure education programmes contribute to workforce planning agendas
