Salary: £13.00 – £15.00 per hour (dependent on experience) – Term Time Only
Reports to: Construction Training Lead / Centre Manager
Contract Type: Term time only, part-time hours (08:00-15:00 Monday – Thursday) Potential to extend to Friday and occasional days within school holidays in the future.
Safeguarding Level: Enhanced DBS required
Purpose of the Role
To provide high-quality practical, organisational, and learner support within the Construction Training Centre. The postholder will ensure learning spaces and resources are well prepared, safe, and ready for use, while providing enhanced support to young people; especially those with additional needs, SEND/EHCP plans, or barriers to engagement.
This role is ideal for individuals with a background in care, youth work, SEND support, pastoral roles, behaviour support or similar environments, who are committed to helping young people settle, engage, and progress in a vocational learning setting. Construction experience is helpful but not essential, as full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop Preparation & Maintenance
• Prepare, set up, and clear away tools, equipment, and resources for practical sessions.
• Maintain cleanliness, organisation, and safety across workshop and centre areas.
• Conduct regular checks of tools, equipment, and materials, reporting defects promptly.
• Ensure consumables and materials are stocked and reordered appropriately.
• Support tutors with basic workshop demonstrations where appropriate (training provided).
Learner Support & Engagement
• Provide consistent support to learners with SEND, EHCPs, social/emotional needs, or barriers to learning.
• Help learners transition into the environment, promoting positive routines and building trust.
• Support individuals or small groups with tasks, emotional regulation, and engagement.
• Encourage positive behaviour, teamwork, communication, and safe working habits.
• Build supportive relationships that encourage attendance and motivation.
Support for Teaching & Learning
• Assist tutors during practical and classroom sessions.
• Reinforce instructions and help learners understand and complete tasks.
• Help maintain an organised, calm learning environment.
• Supervise small learner groups under tutor direction.
Health, Safety & Compliance
• Adhere to all Health & Safety policies and procedures.
• Promote safe working practices and model professionalism.
• Support risk assessments and maintain safety documentation.
• Report safeguarding, welfare, or safety concerns immediately.
General Duties
• Work collaboratively with tutors and the wider centre team.
• Support events, maintenance tasks, and enrichment activities.
• Attend training, CPD, and staff meetings.
• Contribute to safeguarding and welfare of learners.
• Undertake any duties appropriate to the post.
