Our Admin Officers play a critical role, providing excellent administrative support and customer service to court users, judiciary and management.

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Our roles support our court users and colleagues within HMCTS, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice. We have 4 roles available:

• 3 Fixed Term Contract, up to 12 months - 2 positions based at Plymouth Combined Court and 1 position based at Torquay County Court – Applications for part-time working would be considered, however the minimum days required per week is 4 full days and non-working days are to be agreed with the business.

• 1 Fixed Term Contract, up to 12 months based at Plymouth Combined Court with the requirement to travel to other sites – Applications for part-time working would be considered, however the minimum days required per week is 4 full days and non-working days are to be agreed with the business. Occasional travel will be required when needed to cover both Plymouth Magistrates Court and Plymouth St Catherine’s House, but are within walking distance of Plymouth Combined.

Work travel expenses will be paid in accordance with organisational policies. 

Your role

Working as part of a team, you will contribute to the overall operational, performance and service standard targets across your area of work. You will progress cases through the court/tribunal system and provide administrative support to functions within HMCTS. You will have regular contact with court / tribunal users, which could include members of the Judiciary and the legal profession.

The successful candidate that would be travelling between Plymouth Magistrates Court and Plymouth St Catherine’s House sites will be based in Operational Support working with estates and IT colleagues; previous experience working in a Health & Safety/Fire/Security role would be beneficial but not essential.

Remote support is provided to Newton Abbot Magistrate Court and Torquay County Court, however there is no requirement to travel to these sites.

You will be adaptable, able to multi-task and effectively carry out a variety of duties, which will include:

• Preparing papers and files for court, tribunals, hearings and meetings
• Creating and updating records on our in-house computer system and data input
• Resulting courts accurately, interpreting accurately the information required on a court file.
• Checking and verifying documents, records, accounts, claims and returns for approval, results, statistics, plans etc. against criteria, regulations or procedures.
• Collecting and assembling information for returns, results, accounts, statements, warrants, statistical analysis, reports, etc
• Communicating with the Public, the Judiciary, other Court and Tribunal Users and Representatives of other Agencies and Organisations

Your skills and experience

With a friendly and approachable manner, you’ll have excellent attention to detail and good written and verbal communication skills. You have a desire to deliver proactive and effective support to customers by phone and email. You’ll be skilled in organising your time, prioritising efficiently, able to multi-task and adapt to using various software packages. You’ll enjoy working in a busy environment and helping court users navigate the justice system.
