Are you a caring, patient, and understanding person who enjoys helping others live life to the fullest? We’re looking for a kind and friendly Personal Assistant to support a 48-year-old man living with a brain injury. He’s an easy-going, down-to-earth person who enjoys football, relaxing with a beer, and good company.

Due to a brain injury 15/16 years ago, he has lost his ability to speak, although he can sometimes say a few words and communicates in other ways. He also has some short-term memory difficulties and may occasionally need light assistance with moving and handling. He is able to manage his own personal care but sometimes benefits from gentle prompting and encouragement.

This role is about more than just practical support — it’s about companionship and understanding. You’ll help with everyday tasks such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication prompting, and some admin, but most importantly, you’ll be there as a friendly presence, someone who can communicate clearly and patiently, helping him feel confident and supported in his daily life.

There may be times when he experiences mild incontinence, so a bit of extra help with laundry or cleaning might be needed, but full guidance will be given.

If you’re someone with empathy, a calm and positive attitude, and a genuine interest in making a difference to someone’s life, we’d love to hear from you.

This is a wonderful opportunity to build a meaningful connection while providing valuable support to a kind and independent individual.

Duties include:
- Medication prompting/administering
- Moving and handling
- Other relevant duties as required
- Administration
- Housekeeping
- Shopping
- Cooking
- Companionship

Candidate qualities:
- Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
- Reliable with good timekeeping
- Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
- Hygienic, tidy and well organised
- Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
- Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
- Honest and cheerful
- Creative
- Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
- Able to always work to high standards of health & safety
- Driving license preferred but not essential

Notes:
All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required.

If you are successful in your application for this position, you will be either engaged directly or employed by the individual employer and not by Independent Lives. The role may be offered on an employed or self-employed basis, depending on the suitability and agreement with the employer. If the role is employed, you will be entitled to holiday pay and issued an employment contract.

Please note: If you do not hear back within three weeks of applying, unfortunately your application has not been successful on this occasion.
