Job Title: Lawyer/Senior Lawyer

Salary: £21.38 per hour PAYE with accrued holiday and pension contribution
Hours: 37 hours per week Monday-Friday
Role length: 2 months opening assignment
Job type: On-site

Contract Type: Temporary
The role: You will provide high quality legal services across criminal and civil litigation, with additional support to education and employment matters as required. You will manage your own caseload, act as a senior case holder and advocate, provide advice to officers and members, and support the wider team.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as senior case holder and, where appropriate, advocate in criminal and civil litigation.
Provide clear legal advice to Council officers, committees and sub-committees.
Supervise and support junior staff.
Handle urgent and competing demands, often under pressure.
Deliver training to colleagues, clients and elected members.
Ensure casework meets professional standards, statutory requirements and deadlines.
Prepare reports, written advice and guidance.
Support Council departments including Children’s Services and Adults and Community Services.
Assist other West Yorkshire public authorities on legal matters when required.
What the client is looking for:
Strong experience in litigation, with the ability to exercise sound professional judgement.
Confident dealing with senior internal and external stakeholders, including courts, tribunals and regulatory bodies.
Ability to analyse and present complex information clearly.
Competence with a range of basic IT applications.
Solid understanding of relevant legislation, regulations and practice directions.
Desirable:
At least 5 years’ experience in education law while practising as a solicitor, barrister or Fellow of CILEx.
Current practising certificate (solicitor or barrister) or Fellowship of CILEx.
