Summary
What skills and experience we're looking for
Could you lead a school where openness isn’t just a value, it’s the architecture?
At Hartsfield JMI, our open-plan layout mirrors our ethos: visible leadership, shared responsibility, and a culture where no one hides and everyone supports. If you believe leadership is about presence, connection, and trust, this could be your next Headship.
The vacancy arises following the planned retirement of our long-standing Headteacher, who has led the school for ten years with integrity and vision. Whilst we will be sad to see her go, The Headteacher’s departure opens up an exciting opportunity for a new leader to build on strong foundations and shape the next chapter of Hartsfield’s journey.
You’ll be stepping into a two-form entry primary school in the heart of Baldock, with generous indoor and outdoor space. You’ll be visible, collaborative, and confident in managing change with sensitivity. You’ll guide us through challenges such as SEND complexity and demographic shifts, while building on strengths in areas like writing and early years.
In return, you’ll get a school with a strong reputation, a stable and experienced staff team, and a governing body that supports and challenges in equal measure. You’ll inherit a school that’s performing well, with high parental expectations and a community that’s deeply invested in its success.
We are looking for an experienced Headteacher or an exceptional Deputy/Assistant Head with experience working in larger schools. What matters most is your ability to lead with integrity, communicate with clarity, and bring fresh eyes to a school that’s ready for its next phase.
Curious to see how our ethos lives and breathes in daily school life? We’d love to welcome you for a visit, come and experience Hartsfield for yourself. To make an appointment, please contact Lynda Caldwell at lcaldwell.clerk@hartsfield.herts.sch.uk or call 01462 895267.
