Summary
Building Surveyor - Construction
£54,000 - £68,000 plus benefits including company car (Work Level 5)
Field based role; in this role you'll be splitting your time between working from home and visiting construction sites across the UK.
We're looking for a Building Surveyor to join our Property team and focus on construction projects across our estate. You'll play a key role in shaping specifications, supporting tender submissions, and ensuring projects deliver on cost, quality, and time. This role combines technical expertise with commercial insight, helping us achieve best value and drive continuous improvement across our varied property portfolio.
Why this role matters
Our varied estate includes a diverse mix of trading and non-trading sites, each with unique challenges. This role ensures we make smart decisions about capital investment, balancing compliance, buildability, and cost efficiency. You'll influence how we approach procurement, materials, and design standards, supporting our ambition to deliver high-quality spaces while maximising commercial value.
What you'll do
* Provide technical building surveying expertise across construction programmes
* Review and interpret complex technical reports, offering clear guidance to non-technical colleagues
* Play an active role in procurement and tender activities to secure best value
* Feed into the property fabric specifications and model standards
* Identify opportunities for cost savings and value engineering through design and material choices
* Support continuous improvement in construction delivery methods and compliance standards
* Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure projects meet quality, cost, and time objectives
* Operate across multiple sites, balancing on-site presence with remote working
What you'll bring
* A degree in Building Surveying or a construction-related field (or equivalent experience); RICS Chartered Surveyor status would be an advantage but is not essential
* Significant experience in building surveying and construction across multiple sites
* Strong commercial awareness and ability to influence procurement decisions
* Proven ability to analyse technical and financial information and provide clear recommendations
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of internal and external partners
* Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and managing varied priorities
* Knowledge of compliance requirements and ability to embed them into design and delivery
* A proactive approach to continuous improvement and cost optimisation

* An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
* 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
* A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
* Private healthcare
* Access to a subsidised onsite gym (at our Manchester HQ)
* 30% discount on Co-op products and 10% off other brands
* Stream - early access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
* Virtual healthcare including GP appointments, mental health support, nutrition and fitness advice
* 24/7 colleague support service
* Training and support for your development and career progression
