Summary

1. To work as an autonomous practitioner as part of a multi professional team in the delivery ofthe care as directed by the ambulance service. To attend/contact patients presenting withundifferentiated emergency, urgent and unscheduled care problems, managing patients atthe Right Time and the Right Place to enhance the patients experience through their emergency, urgent and unscheduled care journey through the provision of emergency/urgent assessment, diagnosis and treatment. 2. To exhibit an advanced breadth and depth of knowledge combined with critical thinking andexpertise in patient assessment, point of care patient diagnostics and clinical interventionswhich will be supported by an extended scope of practice beyond that required for paramedic. 3. To develop knowledge and skills in identified areas of specialist practice and contribute topan-service education, training, research, and audit activity. To work to a defined medicalmodel with the attitude, skills and knowledge base to deliver holistic care and treatment withina variety of settings with a broadly defined level of autonomy. 4. Provide visible leadership, support and management to more junior clinical staff includingsupervision and performance management. Provide leadership and support (remote & onscene) to other clinicians on duty ensuring patient needs are prioritised appropriately, andclinical support is available when needed. 5. Provide a hear and treat service using a recognised medical model for patients presentingwith undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems. This will mandate use of advanced skills inhistory taking, physical examination, problem solving and clinical decision making to establish a diagnosis and management plan via remote contact of patients. To manage own caseload in response to unpredictable patterns of work (See and treat or refer) 6. Actively participate in clinical audit to identify, report and act on any clinical risks, contributeto and apply policies, procedures and guidelines and identify educational needs of self andothers and proactively meet these needs through close working with the SoJAS training department. 7. Work alongside senior management colleagues to develop and implement innovative waysof working to benefit the whole heath community. Support Senior Managers in reviewingclinical investigations, fitness to practice cases and clinical enquiries. To be the named leadfor key strategic SoJAS workstreams as directed by the Manager (i.e. Falls and End of Life).Advise the management team on latest evidence and changes to current practice based onresearch. 8. Assist in the development of an integrated approach to the delivery of emergency carethrough supporting the development, structure and implementation of interprofessional andpartnership working through active liaison with applicable branches of the Government ofJersey. This will incorporate care pathway bundles, direct referral pathways and holistic careplanning for patients, to ensure the patient receives the right care at the right time in the rightplace. 9. Responsible for ensuring the effective implementation and monitoring of infection preventionand control in all areas within area of responsibility to ensure continued compliance of theorganisation and with the Health Act 2006, Health and Social Care Act 2008 and any relevant/future Government of Jersey directions regarding infection prevention and control. Always adhere to the Infection Prevention and Control policy, providing clear leadership andpromotion of responsible attitudes towards infection prevention and control. 10. Be prepared to respond to immediate life-threatening calls and undertake operational dutiesas required by the States of Jersey Ambulance service in periods of high demand. Respondto Major Incidents as part of SoJAS requirement and response plan. Maintain an SP ClinicalPractice portfolio as well as meeting the CPD requirements of the HCPC and statutory andMandatory training as directed by the SoJAS Training department including Safeguarding,Conflict Resolution and Moving & Handling. As a new and developing role, SoJAS may alter, where reasonable, the expectations of the role to meet operational requirements or unexpected developments.
