Renfrewshire Council is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Roads Engineer to lead the delivery of our road’s capital and maintenance programmes. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of Renfrewshire’s infrastructure and ensure safe, sustainable, and high-quality transport networks for our communities.
Reporting to the Lead Officer for Infrastructure Investment, you will take a strategic role in managing and delivering major capital projects within the Roads team. You will direct and support teams responsible for resurfacing, drainage, environmental improvements, and asset management, ensuring projects meet current standards and deliver best value.
You will oversee contract preparation, procurement, and performance monitoring, working closely with contractors and stakeholders to ensure timely, safe, and cost-effective delivery. Your responsibilities will include budget management, compliance with statutory duties, and the use of specialist software such as AutoCAD, GIS, and asset management systems.
You will also lead on health and safety compliance and foster a positive, performance-driven culture across the service.
It is essential you have Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction or project management or IEng or CEng status as well as significant experience in multi-disciplinary roads projects, including financial and contract management.
You must have a proven track record in financial management and effective communication, presentation, written skills, project management, Influencing and negotiation skills at all levels.
It is also essential you have the ability to manage risk and be accountable for decisions taken and have highly developed organisational skills, managing effective prioritisation and consistent delivery against targets across the service
Experience in capital investment programmes, CDM, and local authority work would be desirable.
A driving licence is also desirable but not essential.
