Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £31,505 per annum / £17.31 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

Job purpose/about the role

To provide technical and professional expertise on engineering projects. Provision of professional design and project management services for a range of revenue and capital projects, which meet quality, cost and time requirements.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a civil or structural engineering discipline, or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 year’s post qualification experience in engineering industry (design,
    maintenance and project management)
  • Membership of a relevant professional body or willingness to progress towards a
    recognised professional qualification e.g., IEng or CEng MICE
  • Full Current UK Driving Licence

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

  • Have a strong self-motivation and self-starting ability and good organisational skills
  • Ability to plan, prioritise, co-ordinate and deliver a range of projects/processes to
    ensure programmes milestones/deadlines are achieved.
  • Ability to work to and meet deadlines
  • Ability to manage a diverse range of projects simultaneously and to manage and
    prioritise conflicting demands
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to provide professional advice and make effective decisions
  • Ability to work on own initiative and/or within a team
  • Ability to operate computerised systems
  • Ability to prepare accurate and concise reports
  • Ability to analyse develop solutions to technical problems
  • Ability to prepare detailed design drawings and specifications
  • Ability to measure quantities and prepare cost estimates
  • Ability to communicate effectively
