Summary

The Playworker Supervisor is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for children in out-of-school care. The role involves overseeing the daily operations of the After School Club and the holiday playscheme in conjunction with the Play Manager, ensuring high-quality play and learning experiences, and supervising staff to uphold best practices in childcare. The Playworker Supervisor will deputise for the Play Manager in their absence to maintain the service's smooth operation.
Key Responsibilities

Supervision & Leadership
• Oversee and ensure the safety and well-being of children during play sessions, trips, and outings.
• Supervise play staff, volunteers, and work experience students, providing guidance and support.
• Deputise for the Wraparound Childcare Manager when necessary, ensuring continuity in service delivery.
• Monitor and assess staff performance, identifying training and development needs.
• Ensure adequate staffing levels by liaising with the Wraparound Childcare Manager regarding cover.

Administrative Duties
• Attend and contribute to team meetings, sharing ideas for activities and service improvements.
• Maintain accurate records, including attendance registers, accident/incident reports, and daily diary etc.
• Assist in implementing the Every Child Matters Framework, Play work Principle and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
• Oversee administrative tasks such as health and safety checklists, menu planning, daily diary, staff rota and petty cash records.
• Support fundraising efforts and report on service capacity and activity updates.

Play work & Child Development
• Plan and deliver a variety of structured and free play activities, including arts, sports, drama, and educational sessions.
• Promote inclusive play opportunities that cater to different ages, needs, and abilities.
• Encourage children’s social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and creative development.
• Act as a positive role model, fostering a respectful and supportive environment.
• Ensure play activities align with the EYFS framework for children aged 4–6.

Health & Safety
• Conduct daily safety checks of play areas, equipment, and facilities.
• Implement risk assessments and follow health and safety policies.
• Ensure food hygiene standards are met when preparing refreshments.
• Respond promptly to any incidents, taking necessary action and reporting accordingly.
• Actively promote and support the safeguarding of children and young people in attendance, ensuring that all staff and volunteers observe the organisation’s policies and procedures to keep children safe from harm.

Liaison & Communication
• Build positive relationships with children, parents, carers, and external agencies.
• Encourage parental involvement in activities and keep them informed about their child’s progress.
• Represent the service in external meetings with schools, social services, and community groups.
• Collaborate with other childcare projects to share best practices and enhance service delivery.
