ABOUT THE EMPLOYER
A rapidly growing, mission-driven start-up is launching its first large-scale London production facility. The company specialises in high-quality, nutritionally aligned prepared meals produced at volume. This is a fast-paced environment suited to someone who enjoys building systems from the ground up and thrives in periods of rapid growth and change.

THE ROLE
The CPU Manager will lead the full setup, launch, and ongoing management of a new central production unit. This is a hands-on operational leadership role involving facility commissioning, team building, food safety oversight, and high-volume production management.
You will establish all operational processes, ensure consistent output quality, and scale daily production from launch phase to several thousand meals per day.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Facility Setup & Launch
• Lead the setup of a new London-based CPU, including layout planning, equipment selection, commissioning, and workflow design.
• Create and document all SOPs for production, packing, and dispatch.
• Source and manage suppliers for ingredients, packaging, and raw materials.
• Oversee all pre-launch activities to meet the target go-live date (early 2026)

Production & Operations Management
• Oversee day-to-day kitchen, production, and dispatch activities.
• Scale operations from launch to >3,000 meals/day within the first 6–12 months.
• Manage production schedules to ensure efficiency, consistency, and on-time output.
• Implement strong stock control, inventory systems, and cost management processes.

Quality, Safety & Compliance
• Lead all food safety, hygiene, and health & safety practices.
• Implement and maintain HACCP (Level 3+ required).
• Prepare the site for external audits, aiming for SALSA or BRC certification.
• Ensure accurate allergen management and strict compliance with UK food regulations.

Team Leadership
• Recruit, train, and manage kitchen and production staff.
• Build a positive, safe, and high-performance team culture.
• Manage rotas, performance, and staffing levels to match production needs.

Financial & Performance Oversight
• Manage production budgets, including food costs, labour, and operational expenditure.
• Monitor KPIs, analyse performance data, and drive continuous improvements.
• Provide regular operational reports to senior leadership.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
• Experience in a high-volume food production facility, CPU, or large-scale catering environment (not restaurant-only).
• Practical experience with cook–chill and chilled food production.
• Strong HACCP knowledge (Level 3 minimum; Level 4 preferred).
• Experience with food safety audits; SALSA or BRC exposure ideal.
• Proven leadership experience managing production or kitchen teams.
• Strong financial and operational management skills.
• Highly organised, process-driven, and comfortable in fast-paced environments.
• Right to work in the UK.

WHAT’S OFFERED
• Competitive salary + performance bonus
• Potential equity options
• Opportunity to build a major operational function from scratch
• High levels of autonomy and responsibility
• Career advancement as the organisation scales
