As Welcome Manager, you’ll play a key role in leading our small but enthusiastic Welcome team at Montacute House. You’ll inspire exceptional visitor experiences, oversee day-to-day operations including membership recruitment, and help bring our seasonal programming to life. This is a dynamic role at the heart of our visitor offer, where your leadership and creativity will help shape memorable moments for everyone who comes through our doors.

Salary: £13.74 per hour

Contract: Permanent

Hours/ working pattern: Part-time. 28.13 hours per week

This impressive stately home is a masterpiece of Elizabethan renaissance architecture and design. The property boasts beautiful gardens, a varied outdoor programme and a long gallery within the house. You’ll be reporting to the Operations Manager, working in a team at Montacute House part of the South Somerset Portfolio. There will be some cross portfolio working. You will be assisting the Facilities Manager for the South Somerset portfolio on a regular basis and support all departments onsite, so our visitors have a great experience when visiting.

Montacute house is located in the centre of the picturesque Montacute village. This beautiful Elizabethan Ham stone manor house is surrounded by formal gardens, lawns, orchards, parkland and overlooked by the ancient St Micheal's hill all of which having been in the care of the National Trust since the early 1930's.

Having featured in many feature films as well as TV programs and famous for its beauty Montacute House attracts over 150,000 visitors per year (the largest in the portfolio) and is open 363 days per year.

Starting in late 2025 the house is seeing a major project in repairing and strengthening both staircases. This project is exciting as it will open the house up to be accessed on all levels yet again.

What you'll be doing
Every person who walks through our doors is helping to support the vital work of the National Trust — protecting special places so that people and nature can thrive, now and for generations to come. You'll be at the heart of creating a warm and memorable welcome for every visitor, ensuring their experience is the best it can be.

You’ll have overall responsibility for the Welcome team, and their safety as well as working practices, working closely with the property team to make sure every visitor has a great day. You will be a member of the property’s leadership team.

In this role, you'll lead and support your team, helping to resolve challenges with confidence and positivity. You’ll know how to turn a tricky situation around and will empower your team to do the same. You will have responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the welcome area and ensure the delivery of the highest standards of service and visitor experience, using sound judgement and decision making, in line with National Trust guidelines and policies. You’ll be using your creativity and communication skills both to inspire and motivate your staff and volunteers, and to help provide the friendly face of the National Trust to thousands of visitors.

You'll also play a key part in fundraising and encouraging visitors to become members of the Trust. By sharing your knowledge of our conservation efforts—both at Montacute House and across the Trust—you’ll help people understand the impact of their support and inspire them to be part of our mission. You'll also be managing compliance tasks relating to your department.

The Welcome Manager role will be part of the duty management rota having responsibility for the safe opening and closing of the property as well as responding to incidents whilst on shift. There will be weekend and bank holiday working included within this role.
