About the Role

The role is responsible for overseeing the assessment of complex building regulation applications, managing responses to dangerous structures, and ensuring compliance with statutory duties. As a senior leader, the postholder will drive service improvement, workforce development, and innovation, while promoting equality, sustainability, and public safety.

The Building Control Manager will work collaboratively across departments and with external stakeholders to grow the service, maintain market competitiveness, and uphold professional standards. The role also involves providing expert technical advice and evidence in support of enforcement actions and legal proceedings, in partnership with the Council’s legal team. Through effective leadership and strategic oversight, the postholder will ensure the service remains resilient, responsive, and aligned with the needs of Nottingham’s communities and built environment.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Team Management - Lead, motivate, and manage the Building Control team, ensuring effective workforce planning and performance.
  • Service Development - Monitor and improve service delivery, ensuring compliance with statutory duties and KPIs.
  • Marketing and Business Growth - Promote the Building Control service to maintain and grow market share.
  • Leadership - Develop and implement the strategic direction of the Building Control service in line with council priorities.
