Summary

Looking for a Personal Assistant to support an autistic young lady with learning difficulties to develop her independent living skills both at home and in the community, build her confidence in social situations and accessing community activities while also providing her mother with some much-needed respite.

The young lady in question is very bright and wants to expand her horizons, however she lacks motivation at times. She has a young daughter of her own who she supports with all her family’s support. She is looking for a PA who can support her to increase her daily living skills at home with her mum, while also requiring someone who can take her out into the community to support her with activities of daily living, such as travel training, money management and shopping, and help build her confidence in these areas. She hopes that by building a trusting, working relationship with the right candidate, she will only enhance her own parenting skills as well. It is felt that that she would greatly benefit from finding opportunities to socialise with other young people and make connections and friends, so the dynamism and ability and drive to research and find suitable activities would be essential.

Part of the role is also providing her mother with some respite hours, to enable her some time away from the pressure of her constant responsibilities. Having her own learning difficulties means that the need for some relief from the constant demands of supporting her daughter and granddaughter are especially needed.

The right PA will have clear and confident communication skills in English, along with a calm, kind and patient approach to supporting someone with ASD. The client can be initially shy, but will soon demonstrate a sharp sense of humour once she is engaged, so the right person will need to be a positive and dynamic individual who can engage on many levels.

She is looking for someone who is supportive, motivating and able to motivate her. Lived experience or a good understanding of neurodiversity would be an advantage.

It is essential that you are comfortable around dogs (there are two large, but very docile ones also living at the property!).

This role requires the PA to have some flexibility around the hours they work (up to 13 hours per week). It is anticipated that there will be blocks of hours during the week on offer, which can be discussed at interview.

Any specialise training requirements can be identified and sourced by the SDS team.
A full clean driving licence would be preferable.
Enhanced DBS Certificate and references required.
