Summary
An exciting opportunity has presented for a self-motivated, enthusiastic and committed individual to develop their dispensary knowledge and leadership skills in this exciting senior role within Inpatient Pharmacy at Guy's hospital.
We are looking for an experienced Pharmacy Technician with ACPT qualification to join our team; they must be GPhC registered, demonstrate a high standard of dispensing in line with CQC standards, participate in the training and development of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team, demonstrate comprehensive communication, adapt and display proactive working within a fast paced demanding dispensary to provide an excellent patient centred service.
You'll join us as we embark on the delivery of our new Pharmacy 2030 strategy, with members of the Pharmacy Technician team being integral to innovative ways of providing patient care.
You will need to be able to participate in the bank holiday rota, weekend working and weekly lock up late duty support.
• Dispense and accurately check inpatient prescriptions in line with KPI's.
• Support the Principal Pharmacy Technician in delegating workflow
• Monitor and assist Senior Assistant Technical officers in PDR's, training and progression.
• Train and support multidisciplinary team, including but not limited to rotation Pre-registration Pharmacist and Student Pharmacy Technicians.
• Maintain, investigate and correct stock levels on behalf of Principal Pharmacy Technician; including high cost medication, controlled drugs, clinics and Cytotoxic medications.
• Participate in dispensary meetings and communications to the wider teams in Pharmacy and the Trust.
• To undertake CPD and attend courses in practice areas where needs are identified.
• To participate in weekly late night lock up duties

1. Efficiently and accurately carrying out the final check of the dispensing process as an accredited checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT)
2. Dispenses screened prescriptions, including clinics, cytotoxic medications, controlled drug medications, discharge patients and inpatient orders
3. Participates in the timely, accurate and cost-effective dispensing of medication which may include clinical trials, chemotherapy and unlicensed medicines.
4. Counsels’ patients and carers on the use of their medication if/as required
5. Deputises for the Principal Pharmacy technician where relevant
6. Leads the team in the day to day running and co-ordinating the workflow
7. Supports the Principal Pharmacy Technician to ensure Pharmacy assistants, Pre-registration Pharmacy Technicians and post-qualification Pharmacy training is accommodated and completed within the department (including dispensing accuracy and ACPT logs)
8. Assists the Principal Pharmacy Technician with induction, training and development of staff working within the section/department.
9. Supports the Principal Pharmacy Technician in ensuring that Trust Policies and Procedures are implemented and adhered to.
10. Participates, leads dispensary meetings and communications to wider teams within Pharmacy and the Trust.
11. Supports the Principal Pharmacy Technician in the supervision of and technical operation of the dispensary.
12. Undertakes environmental monitoring for technical quality assurance, where appropriate. This will include investigating and responding to alarms from the temperature monitoring system affected by any temperature alerts.
13. Investigating, resolve stock discrepancies and action drug alerts
14. Carries out appraisals as required and ensures appropriate records are kept, for rotational staff and students.
15. Is involved in the recruitment of technical staff and Pharmacy Assistants when necessary
16. Answering dispensary phone calls, inpatient hatch and resolving complex queries
17. Participates in departmental audits and project work as necessary for service improvements
18. Has the responsibility to ensure equipment, furnishings, working area etc are maintained and kept to a clean, tidy standard
19. Works closely with other Senior Pharmacy Technicians, Medicines management Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacist’s, Consultants, Pharmacy Assistants across the Pharmacy to maintain a good communication and efficient working throughout the service
20. Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed dispensary KPIs by maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and high-quality patient service within required time frames.
