Summary

Pastoral & Attendance OfficerLocation: Sunderland

Salary: £30,000 FTE (£24-25k Actual)
Hays Education are recruiting on behalf of a primary school in Sunderland for a dedicated Pastoral & Attendance Officer. This is a key role in supporting pupil welfare and improving attendance across the school.
About the RoleYou will work closely with families, staff, and external agencies to ensure every child feels safe, supported, and able to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and improve pupil attendance and punctuality.
  • Conduct home visits and liaise with families to address attendance concerns.
  • Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring child protection policies are implemented.
  • Support cared-for children and those with social and emotional needs.
  • Prepare attendance reports and deliver assemblies promoting good attendance.
  • Work collaboratively with external agencies and the local authority.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with children and families.
  • Experience in pastoral care or attendance management is desirable.
