Summary

Trading Standards Officer (Gr F/G/H/I)*

Description
As a Trading Standards Officer (Gr F/G/H/I)*, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with a wide array of trading standards legislation aimed at protecting consumers and maintaining fair trading practices. Your responsibilities will involve enforcing regulations that govern a variety of sectors, from food safety to consumer rights, and you will be positioned at the frontline to detect, prevent, and investigate fraud and non-compliance issues. In this role, you will engage with both consumers and businesses to promote awareness of trading standards regulations and provide guidance on best practices. By conducting inspections, sampling products, and gathering evidence, you will help uphold the integrity of the marketplace, fostering a safer environment for all stakeholders. Your work will not only involve interpreting complex legal frameworks but will also require strong communication skills to effectively liaise with various parties, including local authorities, businesses, and the public. You will have the opportunity to contribute to community well-being by tackling issues such as misinformation, counterfeit goods, and unsafe products, making a meaningful impact in your role as a Trading Standards Officer. Responsibilities
Conduct inspections and investigations into trading standards breaches.
Advise businesses and the public on compliance with trading standards legislation.
Collect and analyze evidence related to trading standards offenses.
Prepare and present cases for prosecution in court as necessary.
Collaborate with other regulatory bodies and agencies to enhance enforcement efforts.
Conduct educational outreach and awareness campaigns to promote compliance.
Monitor market trends and emerging issues that may affect trading standards compliance.
Requirements
A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field is preferred.
Experience in enforcement or regulatory roles is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of consumer rights and trading standards legislation.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective engagement with various stakeholders.
Proficient in report writing and documentation for investigations and inspections.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess complex situations and determine appropriate actions.
