About the School
James Gillespie's High School is a vibrant, diverse and inclusive learning community in the heart of Edinburgh. We are proud of our rich heritage and strong sense of community. Guided by our shared values of High Expectations, Respect, Integrity, Kindness and Inclusion, we work to ensure that every young person achieves their full potential and leaves school confident, capable and compassionate.
Our learners bring enthusiasm, creativity and curiosity to their studies. Our staff work collaboratively to deliver high quality learning and teaching across all curricular areas, underpinned by equity, wellbeing and a commitment to continuous improvement.
About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and adaptable Teacher of BGE Digital Literacy to lead engaging learning experiences for S1 to S3 learners and to strengthen continuity in digital skills as learners move from primary into secondary. The successful candidate will deliver progressive Digital Literacy experiences within the Broad General Education phase of Curriculum for Excellence. The role focuses on developing digital skills, programming, cyber resilience, information literacy and responsible use of technology. The post holder will model inclusive and effective digital pedagogy across the school.
We welcome applications from secondary teachers from any subject area with an interest or experience in Digital Literacy or computing science. We also welcome applications from primary trained teachers who bring strengths in digital pedagogy and transition work.
This is an opportunity to contribute to a whole school approach to Digital Literacy and computing science while supporting continuity for learners moving from P7 into S1.
Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.
As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we're bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.
Happy to talk flexible working.
