Summary

We are seeking two enthusiastic Active Play Rangers to deliver a pilot partnership project between Under the Trees and Inspiring Scotland seeking to increase opportunities for outdoor play in schools and community settings.

This is an outdoor based role and requires moderate levels of physical effort. The role can involve lifting and handling of equipment and other resources and to be involved in practical activities in the outdoor environment. The role requires being outdoors in a range of weather conditions, therefore you must be comfortable being out in our Scottish Weather.

We are looking for someone that enjoys being outdoors with an interest in working with a range of different age groups, backgrounds and abilities and who will be an active participant in the delivery of structured and child-led play activities.

This is not a sports delivery or coaching role.

There are mandatory training requirements for this role. This training will be provided.

This role requires an initial commitment of 16 hours per week from early January 2026 to late July 2026.

You will be based at our Grangemouth office, but session delivery will be in Alloa. Home working is not available for this role.

Duties include:
- Planning and delivering a range of outdoor play sessions in schoolgrounds and community green-space settings.
- You will risk-assess your sessions (with support from senior staff) and create your own resources. There should be a heavy reliance on natural resources available on site.
- You will liaise with Inspiring Scotland, schools and community groups to ensure the smooth running of the project.
- Activate the imaginations of young people and their families in order to encourage spontaneous, unstructured play in green space settings.
- Adhere to our policies and procedures for Health and Safety at UTT, delivering safe, enjoyable sessions.
- Promote outdoor learning and activity and our ethos at UTT.
- Deliver a high standard of customer service, care and demonstrate good practice.
- Ensure effective communication with, parents, volunteers, UTT staff members, clients and other stakeholders.
- Engage in continuous professional development, keeping UTT fresh and full of new ideas.
- Carry out any other duties as may be necessary for the continued success of UTT.
- Create promotional material including flyers and social media posts.
- Keep up to date with legislation, guidelines and good practice relevant to the operation of UTT.

Person Specification - Essential Criteria:
- Relevant qualification OR experience in one of the following areas; child care, community work, outdoor learning or similar. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstratable experience in delivering outdoor play.
- Knowledge of and enthusiasm for outdoor learning, conservation and other green related issues.
Full clean driving licence with less than 6 penalty points. UTT work vehicles may only be driven by drivers over the age of 25. Applications will be considered where an alternative strategy for delivering and collecting equipment to sites can be proposed.
- Ability to lead groups with diverse needs and abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Competent user of social media including Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Honest and dependable with high level of self-motivation.
- Friendly, personable with an approachable manner
- Pro-active and able to work on own initiative.
- A commitment to equal opportunities.
- Ability to pay attention to detail.
- Candidates will not be appointed until they have successfully joined the PVG scheme and will not start delivering until they have completed Outdoor First Aid training.

Desirable Criteria:

- Excellent computer literacy skills including the proficient use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Databases.
