Summary
It is the role of the health care assistant to work along side the practice team to provide a service to the practice population. Patient enquiries must be handled courteously, efficiently and with empathy. It is essential that a strict code of confidentiality is adhered to at all times. It is important that all members of staff are prepared to take on additional duties or relinquish existing duties in order to maintain efficient running of the practice. The partners and line managers reserve the right to re-distribute duties and functions among members of staff from time to time, and requests for such changes shall not be reasonable refused. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES To undertake New Patient Health Checks and registrations, and blood pressure checks Undertake phlebotomy duties Involvement in running Smoking Cessation clinics Involvement in running Spirometry clinics Attend to referred minor dressings To document clear and precise records of care given in line with practice requirements. Chaperoning, when required Maintenance of supplies and correct storage of medical and surgical equipment as required. Maintaining tidiness of stock room Restock all consulting rooms on a daily basis Stocktaking, in particular for monthly PPA claims Organise equipment calibration Check and record fridge temperatures daily Maintaining and stocking Patient Information area To assist as necessary in setting up, running and evaluating health promotion activities/projects under the guidance of the practice nurses/management Maintaining Carers Register Organising and assisting with annual Flu campaign Admin support for Chronic Disease Management Teams Attending primary health care meetings Minute taking of MDT meeting Provide Reception cover when the receptionists have their monthly meetings Being aware of responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974).
