Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Band 3 Health Care Support Worker to join our team on Day Surgery Ward 18. Our aim is to provide a safe and efficient service to surgical patients. The unit is well led and organised ,making it a great place to work and learn. Our team are experienced ,supportive and friendly, with wide range of skills. We are proud to have a trained HCSW buddy to support and mentor new starters
The Unit is a 5 Day service working Monday to Friday 07.30-20.00
The post will involve caring for adults undergoing Pre Assessment, Anesthetic assessment and Day Surgery. Specialties include General Surgery, ENT, Urology, Community Dental, Colorectal, Gynaecology and Trauma Orthopaedics surgeries
To participate in ongoing care where required within all areas of pre Assessment , Anaesthetic assessment and Day Surgery
Effective communicator, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and patients
Promote a safe environment for patients and staff.
Assisting with patient care, pressure relief, toileting and mobility needs when required. Utilising the correct equipment and resources needed for the safe patients transfers.
Undertake delegated clinical duties competency based skills: patient admission and assessment(nutritional, falls, WHO checklist, skin check),monitoring of vital signs (demonstrating an understanding of normal parameters and escalation of concerns),ECG recording, pregnancy testing, urine analysis, blood glucose testing, measurement of TED stockings, bladder scanning ,catheter care ,specimen collection , venepuncture , removal of peripheral cannula , recording of fluid balance
Effective record keeping written and computer based
Patient transfers to theatre-handover safety brief
Act as chaperone for patients undergoing examination
assist patients with hydration and nutritional needs
escort stable patients to other departments
handling patient property as per trust policy
