Summary
The Marketing Officer manages the Almeida’s website and email communications, and assists the Marketing Manager to deliver creative, and results driven marketing campaigns.
The Marketing & Communications team is crucial to the success of the Almeida’s ambitious vision and the strategic priorities for the team include:
• Build and manage the brand of the Almeida Theatre across London, the UK and internationally.
• Take a strategic and data first approach to marketing and promoting the Almeida and its work in order to deliver income targets in excess of £3 million in ticket sales each year.
• Build and diversify the audience who experience our artistic programme and increase engagement levels among those currently least engaged in arts and culture.
• Engage with a significantly bigger audience than current ticket purchasers, curating a cultural conversation predominantly through the creation and distribution of digital content.
• Develop a segmentation strategy for audiences based on insights from our CRM system (Tessitura).
• Generate additional income from growth of the Almeida Membership and the promotion of auxiliary sales.
Key Responsibilities:
Website:
• Manage the upkeep of our website, ensuring all production or event-specific information is up-to-date across production, generic and membership pages, troubleshooting any errors or problems as they arise.
• Working closely with the web developers Substrakt (and additional technical providers), manage the continued development and maintenance of the Almeida website to ensure it provides an outstanding user experience.
• Work with the Sales and Insights Manager to set up on-sales for new productions.
• Plan, schedule, write copy and adapt text for different audience types (members, young audiences, local audiences).
• Continue to develop the accessibility of the website ensuring it maintains a minimum WCAG AA standard of accessibility.
Email Communications:
• Work with the Marketing Manager on the development and execution of the Almeida’s email communications strategy.
• Deliver email communications, tailoring and editing versions for multiple target audiences, in addition to developing automated email campaigns.
• Lead on development of our email system (WordFly).
• Support the Development and Participation teams in their use of WordFly and provide training if required.
Campaigns:
• Assist the Marketing Manager in the day-to-day execution of all marketing campaigns.
• Assist the Marketing Manager on the creation of season and production-specific artwork and materials.
• Be jointly responsible for the accuracy of all marketing communications, maintaining the theatre brand at all times, and advocating for this across the organisation.
• Work with the Marketing Manager to brief external suppliers, agencies and designers.
• Manage reciprocal marketing swaps with other theatres and organisations in accordance with our data protection and Privacy policies.
Programmes:
• Work with the Press Manager to create and manage the production of programmes for every production, compiling content and working with other departments to gather materials.
Other duties:
• Create the Almeida’s internal monthly staff newsletter.
• Write alt text descriptions for all photography, create large print programmes and additional access materials.
• Work to achieve the marketing department’s audience development objectives.
Person Specification
• Enthusiasm for theatre and the work of the Almeida.
• Has been working in marketing for at least two years; ideally within theatre, arts or entertainment
• Has experience of managing and updating websites and CMS.
• Has experience of using email systems.
• Is confident writing copy for a range of different audiences
• Strong attention to detail.
• A creative thinker, problem solver and confident decision maker.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Ability and confidence in managing relationships with staff across the organisation.
