Summary

The University of Portsmouth Students’ Union (The Union or UPSU for short) is a forward thinking, friendly organisation with a vision of “delivering a positive impact with every Portsmouth student”. As a charity led by its values and guided by its members, we offer a wide range of services and activities to support and enrich the lives of our students. UPSU employs approximately 30 career staff, a further 40 student staff and we work with over 1000 registered student volunteers and over 100 student groups.

The Finance Coordinator post is responsible for supporting, facilitating and developing the Union’s Finance function, including maintaining financial controls and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures. Assist in preparing reports, budget monitoring, reconciliation, sales & purchase ledger. Building strong working relationships across departments, offering financial advice and support.

Finance duties will include:
- Daily cash book posting and online shop reconciliation
- Monthly credit card reconciliation
- Sales & purchase ledger processes
- Posting expenses and petty cash
- Support with budget reporting and payroll processes as required
- Assisting other departments with finance administration as required
- Support the provision of training and inductions to new members of staff
- Support and deputise for daily Central Admin tasks as appropriate

The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail, a competent user of IT, particularly Microsoft Office suite and Google Drive. They will be able to communicate effectively with all members of the staff team and have the ability to work well with others. They will also be able to handle competing priorities, able to use their initiative and enjoy working in a fast paced environment. Experience in using a cloud based financial accounting system is preferred.
