Summary

What skills and experience we're looking for

Key Responsibilities

1. Behaviour Leadership and Management

• Lead the non-teaching Heads of Year, ensuring consistent application of behaviour policies and high standards of pastoral care.
• Lead a Year Group as Head of Year.
• Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Refocus Room (isolation provision), ensuring it is a calm, purposeful environment and that students complete meaningful work and reflect on their behaviour.
• Manage the member of staff responsible for Refocus and detentions, ensuring effective systems for recording, communication, and reintegration.
• Lead on the school’s detention system, ensuring consistency and clear communication with students, staff, and parents.
• Analyse behaviour data, identify trends, and implement interventions to reduce exclusions and improve student outcomes.
• Work with teaching and support staff to develop and implement behaviour management strategies and restorative practices.
• Provide direct support and intervention for students exhibiting challenging behaviour, including developing individual behaviour plans.

2. Fair Access Protocol (FAP)

• Oversee the FAP process, ensuring compliance with statutory guidance and local authority protocols.
• Liaise with the local authority and other schools to ensure the swift placement and reintegration of students under FAP, minimising time out of education.
• Prepare and present cases for FAP panels, ensuring all documentation is accurate and up to date.

3. Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) Lead

• Act as the school’s CSE Lead, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding legislation and best practice.
• Lead on staff training and awareness regarding CSE, ensuring all staff understand their responsibilities.
• Work with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and external agencies to identify, support, and protect students at risk of or experiencing exploitation.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure all concerns are reported and followed up in line with school policy.

4. Wider Pastoral and Safeguarding Duties

• Support the development and implementation of the school’s behaviour and safeguarding policies.
• Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to support students’ welfare and engagement.
• Contribute to the school’s leadership of inclusion, attendance, and personal development.
• Participate in and contribute to safeguarding meetings, including Early Help, Team Around the Child, and multi-agency panels.

5. Line Management and Professional Development

• Line manage non-teaching Heads of Year and the Refocus/Detentions Lead, providing support, challenge, and professional development.
• Lead regular team meetings and contribute to whole-school CPD on behaviour and safeguarding.
• Model high expectations and professional standards at all times.
