Summary
At BHRUT, we are committed to improving care pathways for children and young people across Queen’s Hospital in Romford and King George Hospital in Ilford. Our Children’s Services provide acute care across a range of specialties, including oncology, haematology, respiratory, diabetes, endocrine, neurology and day surgery, supported by clinical nurse specialists and a Children’s Community Nursing Team.
We continue to develop our paediatric services, led by the Director of Nursing, Head of Nursing and our Children’s and Neonatal Matrons. We are seeking a dedicated Registered Children’s Nurse who demonstrates our PRIDE values to join the Paediatric Haemoglobinopathy Team as a Clinical Nurse Specialist on a fixed-term contract from March 2026 for one year.
The post holder will support the haemoglobinopathy service, coordinating care for children and young people with Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia attending BHRUT. The role includes providing specialist advice, education and support to colleagues across the Trust and local boroughs, while promoting ongoing improvement in patient care through evidence-based practice.
You will work across acute settings to enhance standards, ensure equity of care, support integrated pathways and contribute to effective discharge planning. The post holder will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care and taking a holistic approach to supporting children, young people and their families affected by sickle cell anaemia and thalassaemia.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.
Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub.
These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 94,000 scans a year.
The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups.
