Summary
A Vacancy at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
This is an exciting opportunity to apply for the role of consultant in Adult Inherited Metabolic Diseases. This is a permanent position working in the Charles Dent Metabolic Unit within The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery – a large specialist service managing 2000 adults with inherited disorders of metabolism and lysosomal storage disorders.
· Run 3 outpatient clinics per week (including general inherited metabolic disease clinics & lysosomal storage disorder clinics). Patients are seen face to face to facilitate biochemical monitoring and investigations, but each consultant also has a virtual clinic too.
· Attend a weekly MDT
· Participate in a regular transition clinic (6-8 clinics annually) with paediatric colleagues at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital
· Participate in a shared rota to manage repeat prescriptions and answer queries from the metabolic pharmacy
· Attend and participate in regular unit morbidity and mortality meetings
· Support the training of overseas clinical fellows attached to the unit and local trainees in chemical pathology / metabolic medicine
· Attend and participate in a weekly MDT (as part of a shared rota) – including laboratory and clinical IMD staff from NHNN and GOSH
· Review patients as needed in the metabolic day-ward and metabolic kitchen
· Participate in a shared rota to review inpatient consultations – across the UCLH hospital sites
· Support the team in expanding outreach services and clinics in accordance with the NHSE network model.
· Participate in a 1:3 consultant-led on-call rota – providing out of hours advice by telephone.
· Support the team in participating in disease registries and clinical trials of new treatments for inherited metabolic disorders.
