About the Employer
I am both the employer and service user in receipt of direct payments to enable me to reside in my own home I live in the Herington Burn area of Houghton. I have a range of complex health care needs and requirements associated with disability, Secondary progressive multiple Sclerosis. I have limited mobility and require assistance from my care team for all personal care and day to day tasks. I am a wheelchair user and have access to aids to assist me with transfers to and from my chair with the assistance of a PA. An opportunity has arisen for a PA role for 28 hours a week contract and someone to join my small, friendly and cohesive team. Summary of duties I require a personal assistant who can assist me with the following: • Manual handling, in and out of wheelchair • All aspects of personal care (selfcare) and hygiene (showering, dressing • Domestic duties around the home to ensure risk of infection is reduced • Preparation of meals and drinks • Escorting to appointments and social activities- such as shopping • Intermittent Catheter Care • Domestic duties- washing, ironing and cleaning • Providing companionship • Supporting on social activities I am seeking a PA who is down to earth, patient and understanding of the implications and challenges I am presented with. The person I am looking for will be at times required to assist me to appointments and engage in activities of my choice and interest.

About the Role
Duties and Responsibilities
• Support and/or prompt with personal care. This may include toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, getting dressed.
• Support and/or prompt with cooking/meal preparation and eating meals/drinks.
• Assist with household chores and general homemaking.
• Support and/or prompt to attend appointments as necessary, e.g. hospital/doctors.
• Support with food shopping.
• Support the individual to look after/care for pets.
• Support and/or prompt the individual to access sporting and leisure activities.
• Develop a good and trusting one to one working relationship.
• Support with gardening.
The individuals needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required.
You have a responsibility as an employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately. You have a duty to report defects and / or hazards which may give rise to an accident. You are to ensure the safety of the individual at all times.
Due to the nature of the work for which you are applying, this post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure (costs will be covered).

• Be honest, reliable, trustworthy and punctual.
• Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy, including the prohibited use of social media in relation to the job role.
• To be able to work on own initiative.
• To work as part of a team.
• To be able to follow instructions accurately.
• Be patient, supportive and caring.
• Have good listening skills and be able to provide non-judgemental emotional support.
• Be empathetic.
• Previous caring experience is not essential, however you should have a genuine interest in supporting people with a disability/illness to achieve their goals.
• Be able to work flexibly, adapting to the employers needs on a daily basis.
• Flexibility would be an advantage as the hours may be variable.
• Be self-motivated with a willingness to get involved.
• Have a lively personality.

• Monday, 10am- 11:30am & 2pm-4pm
• Tuesday, 10am- 11:30am & 2pm-4pm
• Wednesday, 10am- 11:30am & 2pm-4pm
• Thursday, 10am- 11:30am & 2pm-4pm
• Friday, 10am- 11:30am & 2pm-4pm
Dates and times are flexible and can be discussed at interview.
