About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in helping pupils with special educational needs thrive—both academically and personally. Working closely with the Deputy Principal, class teacher, and wider team, you’ll help create a learning environment where every pupil feels supported, included, and empowered to succeed.

This is a hands-on, rewarding role where you’ll build strong relationships, adapt learning to meet individual needs, and make a real difference in pupils’ confidence, progress, and wellbeing.

What You’ll Be Doing

In the Classroom

Work under the guidance of the class teacher to plan and deliver tailored learning for individuals and small groups
Support pupils with special needs to access learning, develop skills, and reach their targets
Help create a positive, purposeful, and well-organised learning space
Promote inclusion and ensure every pupil has the chance to participate and succeed
Prepare resources, set up learning areas, and assist with classroom organisation
Supporting Pupils’ Wellbeing

Build strong, supportive relationships and act as a positive role model
Encourage positive behaviour and support social and emotional development
Assist pupils who are distressed, unsettled, or unwell, with care and sensitivity
Help deliver individual learning programmes and contribute to education plans
Support access to specialist provision as identified in a pupil’s needs
What You’ll Bring

Essential:

Good literacy and numeracy skills
Experience working with children or young people
Experience supporting those with additional or special educational needs
Some administrative or classroom support experience
Training in relevant learning strategies or curriculum areas (or willingness to train)

Fieldstone School is an independent day school, supporting the most vulnerable young people in society aged 5-16; those children who do not find it easy to fit into existing educational provision. This can be for many reasons, including a range of behavioural, emotional and educational challenges, exacerbated by being on the autistic spectrum. Other difficulties such as sensory processing disorders, attachment disorders or those having faced trauma in their lives.
