Do you have hands-on experience in engineering or manufacturing operations and a knack for keeping things running smoothly? We’re looking for a detail-driven Assistant Factory Manager to support our world-class research facility at the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC).
This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a role where your organisational skills, practical know-how, and team-first mindset will make a real impact. You’ll be part of a collaborative, fast-paced environment supporting research teams that deliver cutting-edge innovation to industry.
What will you be doing? Working closely with the Factory Management team, you’ll help manage the day-to-day operations of our facility—ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality support for technical project teams. From overseeing materials handling and supporting compliance with health and safety standards to coordinating equipment calibration and managing supplies, you’ll be a central part of a team enabling the success of major engineering programmes.
You’ll also:
● Support material accountancy and movement of hazardous goods
● Help maintain equipment, tools, and consumables
● Monitor PPE stock and ensure waste disposal processes are followed
● Assist with staff training records and security access
● Contribute to risk assessments and factory procedures
● Play a role in supporting audits (Quality, Environmental, and H&S)
● Support project teams in applying consistent manufacturing practices
Who are we looking for? You’re someone who thrives in structured, hands-on roles where precision and process matter. You’ll bring:
● Experience in a manufacturing, factory, or engineering environment
● An understanding of project workflows and compliance requirements
● A methodical approach with strong organisational and communication skills
● A commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Familiarity with industry standards like ISO 14001, AS9100, or OHSAS18001 is a bonus—but more important is your drive to support a busy technical environment and your ability to work collaboratively across teams.
Why join us?
● Work in a high-impact research environment influencing real-world innovation
● Access to professional development and industry networks
● Be part of a team that values collaboration, quality, and safety
● Competitive benefits including a university pension, staff discounts, and sustainable travel schemes
Please note: Due to the nature of the work, the successful candidate will need to obtain Security Check clearance and will be on-site full-time. Ensure you meet eligibility criteria before applying.
