Job Description

Planner Post in Energy Planning Team

1 Full Time Permanent Post(36.25hrs)

We are seeking a town planner, or suitably qualified individual in a professional field relevant to the post, to join the Strategic Development Delivery Team (Energy Team) within the Planning & Economy Service.

If you want to work on national and diverse energy and infrastructure projects which are important to the delivery of net zero then this is the job for you.

You will enjoy the challenge of being part of a planning team responsible for dealing with large-scale energy and infrastructure consents across Aberdeenshire. The workload comprises mainly onshore renewal energy development, national transmission infrastructure, CCUS and hydrogen projects, electricity storage and grid stability projects, but can also include consultations for offshore wind projects. Due to an unprecedented workload for offshore windfarms and related onshore infrastructure and associated grid transmission infrastructure in Aberdeenshire, the planning team are looking to expand.

The post will provide an opportunity to gain multi-level experience on often complex and high-profile development projects, from pre-application stage through the consenting process, including presenting at Committee, and planning inquiry work if required.

You should have experience of working in a planning environment and a good understanding of the planning system relating to Development Management. Also, a degree or equivalent in town and country planning or equivalent transferable skills and experience in a related field along with licentiate or chartered membership to a professional body. You must be able to demonstrate the planning knowledge required for the post. Some experience in giving presentations is essential as well as report writing. Good communication and negotiation skills and the ability to demonstrate that you can organise and manage your own work tasks with limited supervision is also required. The ability to teamwork and engage effectively with colleagues and consent stakeholders is also important. You will have the ability to travel throughout the Aberdeenshire Area.

Location: The team are working remotely (from home) instead of from their base at Woodhill House. A flexible/hybrid arrangement is in place as the Service remains committed to working within an enhanced digital environment. This involves flexible home/office working with undertaking site visits, attending offices for team meetings, and presenting reports at committees which are both in person and hybrid.

There is a responsibility for the post holder to demonstrate a commitment to quality service delivery through continuous improvement for the benefit of the Service and the organisation. Informal Enquiries to Wendy Forbes, Team Manager (01467 538066), James Hewitt, Senior Planner (01467 533055) or Elizabeth Tully, Senior Planner (01467 533417)
