A) Job Purpose:
1. To support and receive delegation from the manager as applicable to:-
2. To ensure the provision of a high standard of care
3. To support and enable residents to live the life style of their choosing
4. To provide a service which upholds residents rights
5. To ensure that all services are provided which maintains the residents dignity
6. To ensure staff group work as part of a team to achieve required standards
7. To be involved in the general activities of the Care Home.
B) Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential:
1. Appropriate managerial, leadership and Social Care qualifications
2. The ability to communicate effectively at all levels
3. A commitment to working as a team player
4. A commitment to personal professional development
5. Satisfactory Police Check and check against the POVA List
Desired:
6. NVQ - relevant National Vocational Qualification
7. QCF – new Qualification and Credit Framework
8. Experience of working with older people/people with dementia
C) Main responsibilities
Self:
1. To work in a professional and flexible manner which supports the staff team to provide a high level of care
2. To actively take part in learning opportunities and undertake training as and when required, to maintain a high level of skills and knowledge for yourself and the staff group
3. To attend, plan and deliver supervision sessions to review and reflect on your performance and that of the allocated staff group
4. To ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents and report any issues of concern to the Manager
5. To conduct yourself in a manner at all times (even off duty) which does not misrepresent the organisation or undermine its public and professional standing
6. To have made yourself and the staff group familiar with and understand the key elements of the organisations policies and procedures
7. To remember and recognise that you are working in the residents home, and that you will not act in any way which undermines this
8. To maintain strict confidentiality in and outside of the home

D) Communication:
1. To communicate effectively and respectfully to senior management, staff, visitors, professionals and residents
2. To attend and participate in all staff meetings and some management meetings
3. To attend and or delegate appropriately any reviews or meetings relating to the care of the residents
4. To ensure correct maintenance of professional records of the care provided
E) The premises:
1. To ensure that you and the staff group are familiar with the layout of the premises and location of safety equipment, fire extinguishers and emergency exits
2. To report any issues, dangers or areas of concern
3. To work in a manner which maintains the integrity of the building
4. To ensure the safety and security of all residents personal belongings and company assets
5. Promote safe working throughout the home
F) Resources:
1. To ensure the use of all equipment in a safe manner
2. To minimise damage or wear and tear to the building and all fixed or moveable assets
3. To consider the financial implications of any of your actions, and work in a manner which does not waste company finances
G) Law and Guidance:
1. To make yourself familiar with and keep up to date with the key aspects of legislation and guidance – particularly:
i. the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014,
ii. The Mental Capacity Act 2005 (and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards)
iii. Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
H) Quality Monitoring:
1. You will be responsible for certain monitoring of the quality of the service and systems, and where any fault has been identified you will report the matter to the Manager
2. You will be responsible for those in house audits as specified by the manager, to support achieving compliance with Regulation 17 (Good Governance).
3. You will ensure that evidence of outcomes is recorded where applicable.
4. You will prompt staff where issues have been missed in relation to their performance or responsibilities.

3. To make yourself and the staff group familiar with the needs of all the needs of the residents
4. To enable, support and empower each resident to reach and maintain their full potential
5. To support residents to maintain the life style of their choosing
6. To ensure the staff group carry out tasks which have been delegated to them
7. To contribute to the assessment of residents’ needs, contribute to the development and review of the care file and plans
8. To ensure the monitoring and support of residents to ensure their needs are met (without invading their privacy)
9. To ensure the provision of a high standard of personal care and support; this may include altering work patterns, social activities, intimate care, incontinence, confusion, behaviours, dying etc.)
10. To respond professionally and supportively to any visitor
