Summary
Handyperson
Contract: Avon & Somerset Police
Location: Bridgwater, Somerset
Salary: £31,000
Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:00-17:00
We are seeking a proactive and reliable Handyperson to support the day-to-day maintenance and general upkeep of Avon & Somerset Police sites. You will deliver a high standard of reactive and proactive building fabric tasks, support PPM activities, maintain site condition and ensure safe, compliant and secure working environments across police facilities.
Key Responsibilities-
Deliver minor fabric repairs and general reactive works within agreed timeframes.

Complete low-level PPM tasks and basic maintenance activities.

Replace lamps and carry out routine building checks.

Maintain high housekeeping standards, particularly within plant rooms.

Ensure all actions support security clearance requirements for police premises.

Perform daily walkarounds and report faults promptly to the Helpdesk.

Resolve minor H&S issues where competent to do so.

Support technicians and supervisors with maintenance tasks and PPM coordination.

Assist with grounds maintenance including litter picking, waste bin emptying and general site tidiness.

Complete gritting of walkways during adverse weather.

Respond quickly to spillages and assist cleaning teams when necessary.

Remove graffiti appropriately, seeking advice where required.

Manage subcontractor visits and ensure compliance with risk assessments.

Comply with all EQUANS H&S policies including COSHH, risk assessments and safe working practices.

Carry out required administration accurately and on time.

Maintain positive communication with clients and escalate concerns as needed.

Be willing to travel and work shifts when required.

Experience in joinery, plumbing, general building and fabric maintenance.

Ability to carry out a wide range of basic repair and upkeep tasks.

Full UK driving licence.

Ability to work safely, independently and proactively with good attention to detail.

Experience in relamping and general maintenance duties.

Previous experience in facilities management or public-sector buildings.
