Summary

Contract: Avon & Somerset Police
Location: Bridgwater, Somerset
Salary: £31,000
Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:00-17:00

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and reliable Handyperson to support the day-to-day maintenance and general upkeep of Avon & Somerset Police sites. You will deliver a high standard of reactive and proactive building fabric tasks, support PPM activities, maintain site condition and ensure safe, compliant and secure working environments across police facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver minor fabric repairs and general reactive works within agreed timeframes.

  • Complete low-level PPM tasks and basic maintenance activities.

  • Replace lamps and carry out routine building checks.

  • Maintain high housekeeping standards, particularly within plant rooms.

  • Ensure all actions support security clearance requirements for police premises.

  • Perform daily walkarounds and report faults promptly to the Helpdesk.

  • Resolve minor H&S issues where competent to do so.

  • Support technicians and supervisors with maintenance tasks and PPM coordination.

  • Assist with grounds maintenance including litter picking, waste bin emptying and general site tidiness.

  • Complete gritting of walkways during adverse weather.

  • Respond quickly to spillages and assist cleaning teams when necessary.

  • Remove graffiti appropriately, seeking advice where required.

  • Manage subcontractor visits and ensure compliance with risk assessments.

  • Comply with all EQUANS H&S policies including COSHH, risk assessments and safe working practices.

  • Carry out required administration accurately and on time.

  • Maintain positive communication with clients and escalate concerns as needed.

  • Be willing to travel and work shifts when required.

Required Experience & Skills
  • Experience in joinery, plumbing, general building and fabric maintenance.

  • Ability to carry out a wide range of basic repair and upkeep tasks.

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Ability to work safely, independently and proactively with good attention to detail.

Desirable Experience & Skills
  • Experience in relamping and general maintenance duties.

  • Previous experience in facilities management or public-sector buildings.
