Summary
The post-holder will be required to work closely with the Director of Postgraduate Medical Education (DPGME), Training Directors and College Tutors and to work collaboratively with other education leads on the development of the Trust’s general education strategy to ensure the development and promotion of any medical education by means of coordinated and effective initiatives.
The Postgraduate Medical Education Manager provides strategic direction, specialist medical training knowledge, planning and leadership to the Postgraduate Education Team. This includes providing guidance and senior management support to the DPGME, particularly focusing on the interpretation and implementation of national policies and current legislation relating to medical training and service level agreements.
The post-holder will be responsible for:
Ensuring the delivery of an effective and cost efficient Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) Service to facilitate the delivery of effective training and education for Resident doctors and their consultant trainers.
Leading on budget management and expenditure within PGME.
Collection of data and evidence to support performance indicators and ensuring availability of appropriate databases to support this.
Liaison with NHSE / Health Education England including coordinating visits, producing regular reports for them and cascading information down to our faculty.
Managing the consultant trainers’ database and rolling education and teaching programme, the Resident doctors’ training programmes, database, some aspects of medical induction and some aspects of the study leave process.
Development of and updating local postgraduate education policies and procedures, in line with national guidance.

Overseeing Resident doctors’ induction
Ensuring the provision of support and guidance across the wider postgraduate medical workforce, including; clinical fellows, SAS doctors and consultants. This will include, but not be limited to, support and guidance for candidates progressing on CESR/Portfolio pathway, the fellowship alumnus scheme, and the new consultant and aspiring clinical leads development schemes.
