The Role



Our client is looking for an experienced Housing Officer to join the Department of Community and Children’s Services in London. This role provides a vital service to individuals approaching the City for housing or homelessness assistance. You will be responsible for assessing eligibility for housing under the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Act 2002, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, and the Domestic Abuse Act 2021. The role is central to achieving the City’s strategic aim of preventing homelessness and supporting rough sleepers within the Square Mile.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide a comprehensive housing advice and assessment service to individuals presenting as homeless or threatened with homelessness.

Ensure compliance with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and related housing duties.

Lead the development and delivery of Personal Housing Plans to prevent homelessness.

Conduct in-depth interviews and assess applicants’ housing needs based on relevant legislation and case law.

Ensure temporary accommodation is arranged for eligible applicants and maintain accurate records.

Work with Adult Social Care and external agencies to address welfare needs.

Monitor and report on housing data, ensuring deadlines are met for central government returns.
Liaise with hoteliers and accommodation providers to ensure high standards are maintained.
Work proactively with other team members to support the City of London’s homelessness prevention initiatives.



What the Client is Looking For:



Previous experience in Housing Options Services, specifically in statutory homelessness and housing advice.

Strong understanding of the Housing Act 1996 (Part VII), Homelessness Act 2002, and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

Proven experience in drafting and issuing s184 decision letters.

Enhanced DBS clearance.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to conduct sensitive interviews and handle complex cases.

Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external teams to deliver housing solutions.

A commitment to the City of London’s goal of preventing homelessness and rough sleeping.
