The role: This post supports Durham’s Family Group Conference Service in delivering the Lifelong Links programme. You will prepare, coordinate and facilitate Family Group Conferences for young people in care, helping them build a lasting support network as they approach adulthood. The role includes direct work with young people and their families, restorative work, and supporting crisis responses for children on the edge of care.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and coordinate Lifelong Links Family Group Conferences.
Prepare young people for FGCs and help them explore their networks.
Work directly with children and young people to gather their wishes and views.
Bring together families, friends and professionals to create future focussed support plans.
Identify, engage and mediate with family members and supportive adults.
Produce detailed, evidence based plans and ensure they are shared promptly.
Deliver mediation and restorative interventions where required.
Support the wider team in crisis and emergency work for children on the edge of care.
Maintain accurate records and contribute to risk assessment and safe service delivery.
Work in partnership with social workers, families and relevant agencies.
Promote safeguarding, participation and positive outcomes for young people.
Contribute to service development, attend supervision and team meetings.
What the client is looking for:
Recent, significant experience delivering Family Group Conferences.
Strong background in direct work with children, young people and families.
Experience delivering mediation or restorative interventions.
Excellent understanding of FGC practice, child development and the needs of young people in care.
Good knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989.
Ability to manage complex cases, navigate risk and work independently.
Skilled in engaging families and professionals and managing sensitive situations.
Flexible, resilient and able to work under pressure, including duty and crisis response work.
Strong commitment to safeguarding, equality and non-judgemental practice.
Desirable:
Lifelong Links training.
A degree in Social Work or a related field (teaching, nursing, youth work etc.).
Knowledge of Edge of Care and residential services.
Experience of multi-agency working and contributing to performance and service improvement.
