Summary


Location: Wolverhampton
Salary: £55,000 to £65,000 per annum (based on approximately 50 hours per week)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM - 4:00 PM; every other Saturday, 6:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Holidays: 21 days annual leave plus bank holidays (Good Friday is a working day)


A well-established waste management and vehicle services provider located near Wolverhampton city centre is expanding and looking for a seasoned Senior HGV Mechanic / Workshop Supervisor to lead their workshop operations as part of their growth strategy.
In this pivotal role, you will oversee the workshop's daily functions, managing a fleet of around 50 heavy goods vehicles alongside associated plant and machinery. Your role will combine hands-on technical responsibilities with leadership, compliance oversight, and driving continuous operational improvements.

Key Duties:

  • Supervise routine vehicle servicing, including MOT readiness, repairs, inspections, brake testing, and diagnostics

  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive preventative maintenance schedule for HGVs and machinery

  • Establish and maintain efficient workshop protocols to ensure regulatory compliance and maximise productivity

  • Keep detailed maintenance logs and ensure all compliance records are accurate and up to date

  • Monitor workshop expenditure against budgets, identifying areas for cost reduction and improved efficiency

  • Lead, inspire, and support the workshop team to meet high standards and achieve goals

  • Drive the upgrade and optimisation of workshop processes and systems

  • Foster a workplace culture prioritising safety, collaboration, and continuous development

  • Coordinate with external contractors, managing and approving related invoices before payment
Candidate Profile:


The ideal candidate will have a robust technical background in HGV maintenance combined with demonstrated leadership skills, thriving in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven track record in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair

  • Experience managing teams within workshop or transport environments

  • Strong knowledge of vehicle compliance regulations and standards

  • Relevant industry certifications (such as IRTEC, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent)

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving capabilities

  • A diligent work ethic, proactive mindset, and positive attitude
Desirable Attributes:

  • Familiarity with plant machinery operations

  • Valid HGV driving licence
