Summary

Maintain and support a clean and safe imaging environment Decontaminate and clean imaging equipment, accessories, and clinical areas; move equipment appropriately to maintain service efficiency. Follow MRI safety procedures in restricted areas, ensuring own safety and that of others. Manage blood and body fluid spills in line with protocol. Maintain and dispose of sharps bins in accordance with local policy. Perform QA/QC checks on small equipment (e.g., POCT devices) as per protocol, recording and reporting results. Clean, move, and change MRI coils during sessions. Adhere to and assist with implementing departmental health & safety, infection control, and MRI safety policies. Manage stock and consumables Receive, check, and store deliveries using correct documentation and stock rotation methods. Manage linen, stock, and non-stock items, including maintaining levels in imaging rooms. Monitor expiry dates for contrast agents, pharmaceuticals, and consumables; escalate shortages as required. Manage patient and imaging data Support staff and patients with referral, appointment, and reporting systems. Input, amend, and verify data on patient management and portering systems; ensure image availability on PACS. Access pathology systems to check pre-procedure results, ensuring they are available for clinician review and flagging delays. Confirm patient identity before MRI safety checks, IV cannulation, and escorting into MRI areas. Provide communication and administrative support Communicate effectively with patients, multidisciplinary teams, and external services. Liaise with porters, wards, and ambulance services to support patient flow. Answer calls, take messages, and escalate queries as appropriate. Meet and greet patients, identify interpreting or hearing support needs, and arrange services. Handle patient information in compliance with confidentiality and data protection policies. Support patient care in clinical and research imaging Work within MRI safety, Health & Safety, and COSHH regulations. Assist patients with personal needs, acting as a chaperone where required. Provide pre- and post-examination information for clinical and research studies. Assist with positioning patients on imaging tables and during scans, support manual handling. Cannulate patients and flush with pre-filled saline syringes in accordance with protocol. Observe and record patient vital signs, escalating deviations from normal to senior staff. Assist with patient flow and operational readiness Prepare daily scanner worklists, PPE, and required paperwork. Identify and communicate potential delays to relevant staff. Check emergency equipment and prepare imaging devices and accessories for examinations. Recognise and support patients with additional needs or acute distress, including post-contrast monitoring. Prepare equipment for IV contrast and stress pharmaceuticals, acting as a second checker for Radiographers.
