About the job.

National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Highways Technician to join our team in the South East region. As a Highways Technician within Operations, you will work as part of a small team alongside Engineers and Principal Engineers in day-to-day asset management, supporting identification and early development of renewal schemes, ahead of them entering them into the forward programme of works.

This role can be based in either our Maidstone or Basingstoke office.

Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment.

  • Support the identification and evaluation of asset specific needs in order to develop future maintenance, renewals and improvement solutions.
  • Support the development of asset renewals and improvement plans, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria.
  • Input into the development of early solutions for improvements and/or renewals, including the compiling of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management.
  • Support the capture and maintenance of roads asset data and condition information in the relevant database(s), in line with agreed standards and timescales.
  • Assist Project Managers and Engineers on construction site visits, as required.

About you.

  • HND/C or other relevant technical qualification (or working towards).
  • Ability to learn quickly with a strong team work ethic
  • Customer focussed with excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in highway infrastructure design, construction and delivery methods is desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of Design Manual for Road & Bridges (DMRB) standards and their application on the highways network is desirable but not essential.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
