We are looking for an enthusiastic and hands-on General Tradesperson to join a newly-formed facilities team covering Southern Cumbria and Lancashire. Based in the South Lakes area, but assisting with properties across Southern Cumbria and Lancashire, this role will perform crucial first line repairs at some of our most stunning visitor destinations across the Lake District and Lancashire. You will be experienced with basic joinery and plumbing, a motivated self-starter and have the ability to prioritise workloads and balance varied requests effectively.

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 0.8 FTE – 30 hours per week, core hours will be worked between 0900-1700 Monday-Friday but flexibility is possible where it works for the site and individual

What it's like to work here
Sizergh is an imposing medieval house situated at the gateway to the Lake District. The 1,600-acre estate includes our largest limestone rock garden and a national collection of ferns. Restoration projects within the house and garden have created opportunities in all areas, particularly within the extensive gardening operation and visitor experience. This is a lively property with a varied events programme and thriving café, and the property are looking for team members with energy and enthusiasm.


You'll be part of a team of building professionals who help look after our amazing sites, including facilities managers, building surveyors, project managers, contract managers, and many more. Not only will you bring a wealth of experience in your given trade, but you will also constantly strive to learn more about the properties you work at – their built structures and the history of their development.

What you'll be doing
This role is crucial to help the National Trust look after the wonderful spaces and sites that we have inherited and preserve for everyone, ever. The role will be in high demand with small repairs regularly needed at all our sites and triaging and prioritization skills will be key to working effectively and efficiently. You'll carry out repairs, maintenance and refurbishments in a wide range of locations, complying with procedures to manage risk to the public, staff, volunteers and contractors. Always striving to be efficient and ensure cost effectiveness in all the work you do, you'll develop and capture detailed knowledge of properties built structure and facilities arrangements for your given trade area.


Who we're looking for

practical experience in the construction industry, supported with appropriate qualifications to NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience
competent use of standard machinery
familiarity with the use and maintenance of personal protective equipment
knowledge of relevant health and safety compliance requirements
