Summary

Toadhere to the NMC / HPC Code of Professional Conduct at all times. Todemonstrateclinicalexpertisein the care of any patients receiving treatment in the department. To assess, plan,implementand evaluate the needs of patients on an ongoing basis,coordinatingthe care given by all members of the clinical team. To accurately assimilate and interpret clinical information about thepatientscondition, instigateappropriate remedialactionand promptly report changes. To act as a resource person to others, providingaccurateinformation, advice and support to the multidisciplinary team,patientsand their relatives. To ensure thataccuraterecords aremaintainedreflecting both changes in the patients condition and the treatment delivered. To ensure that patients and their relatives are updated regularly withaccurateinformation andensure that this is presented in a sensitive way and one that they understand. To ensure that Clinical Guidelines are implemented and to be actively involved in auditing practice in conjunction withtheLine Manager and practice development staff. To ensure that practice isevidence-based, and with support,assistin the development of policies and protocols within the clinical area. To upholdhigh standardsof perioperative care, according to existing policies and standards. To support the process of continuous quality improvement,assistingin audits,formally evaluating standards ofcareandassistinginimplementingchanges in the light of such findings. Toorganisepatient transfers within and outside the department,escortingill patients asrequested. To contribute to the health education of patients and their families, ensuring that all patients receiveappropriate adviceand support tomaintaina healthy lifestyle. To actively support the implementation of the Trust nursing / local perioperative strategy and uphold the ethos of the local philosophy. Act as a mentor to junior staff members, responsible for the orientation,supervisionand ongoing development of junior and student nurses, in conjunction with the Line Manager and Practice Development staff. To act as practice supervisor, responsible for completing competency documents for junior staff within agreedtimeframes. To act as a mentor to students undertaking further education asrequested, ensuring a positive learning experience andfacilitatingthe development of their clinical skills. To contribute to the wider educational activities within the Care Group ensuringattendance atand the delivery of educational activities within the Care Group. To promote and encourage the application of researchand ofevidence-basedpractices. Toparticipatein any research projects conducted in the clinical area asappropriate. To act as linknurse(i.e.for infection control, tissue viability, moving and handling), ensuring attendance at and contribution to Trust-wide meetings and responsible for ensuring dissemination of relevant information from these to all staff within the Unit. To manage the clinical workload effectively,ensuringcare isprioritisedappropriately. To contribute positively towardsdeliveringacost effectiveservice, adjusting staffing levels to meet demand andassistingthe ward manager to keep within agreed resources. Toassistwith the ongoingorganisationof the unit, including responsibility for a designated area of practice withinthedepartmentdaily, to ensureoptimaltheatreutilisationat all times,facilitatingtimelyadmission and discharge of patients. Toliasewith Medical Personnel, wardstaffandsite practitionersto ensureoptimalbed usage at all times,facilitatingtimelyadmission and discharge of patients. To act as a team leader to an identified group of staff,monitoringand documenting the development of their clinical skills. To developownskills in recruitment and retention, sicknessmanagementand performance management asdeterminedby line manager. To actively support the process of risk management and health & safety upholding relevant policies to promote this and, ensuring incidents are reported appropriately (in writing), and helpingidentifyways of preventing errors and accidents forboth patients and staff. Topositively contributeto service development affecting the clinical area and positively influenceothersto adapt to change. To actively promote customer care,assistingin resolving local (informal) complaints and supporting the clinicalcoordinatorsto investigate formal problems. Toassistwith the monitoring of stock levels of clinical stores and technical equipment, resolving any shortfall asappropriate. Tomaintainstandards of hygiene and cleanliness within the clinical area, actioningremedyasappropriateand reporting deficits totheSenior Nurse and/ or Theatre Co-ordinator/Matron. To resolve local problems/ conflicts, keeping managers/othersinformed and maintaining positive team dynamics across the Care Group at all times. To take a leadership role in crisis situations, resolvingproblemsasnecessary. Tomaintainconfidentialitywith regard topersonal informationpertaining tostaff. To attend and contribute to departmental meetings asrequired To work within and accept responsibility formaintainingagreed levels of clinical competence and ensure clinical currency asnew technologiesare introduced. To keep up to date with NMC / HPC, Trust and Care Group policies and guidelines and toadhere to these at all times. To be a fully active and committed member of the multidisciplinary teamoperatingin the Care Group. Todemonstratean insight into one's own professional development, contributing to the process ofidentifyingone's own educational and clinical training needs in conjunction with the clinical coordinator. Participate inownIndividual Performance Review and, after suitable training,be responsible forundertakingtimelyreviews forownteam of junior staff. To ensureowneducational commitment tomaintainprofessionalbodys requirements and to ensureownmandatory training certificates are current, in liaison with Line Manager. Lead, coach, and manage the team's performancein accordance withgoodpeoplemanagement practices. Ensure excellence isrecognisedand underperformance is addressed. Participate in regular performance appraisal meetings and ensure each team member has a clear set ofobjectivesand development plans. Ensure the teamcomplies withall statutory, mandatory training and any professional training requirements, keeping them up to date and fully compliant. Manage team absences, including sickness, in line with Trust policy, ensuringappropriate return-to-workmeetings occur, the e-roster is updated, and productivity ismaintainedat the highest possible level. Identifyand fill any vacancies that arise within the team in line with the Trusts recruitment policy and process. Identifytalent and support the internal talent management processto attract andretaintalent and develop asuccession plan for your people. Review the skills mix at regular intervals toidentifypotential opportunities tomaximiseresourceutilisation/allocation, ensuring job descriptions areupdated. Ensure the team's overall well-being ismaintained. Continuously support the team in improving its morale and implementing a culture of zero-tolerance for bullying and harassment.
