Summary
If you’re an Associate Specialist looking for a 12-month fixed term post (maternity cover) in an established setting, then come and work at Gateway Recovery Centre in Widnes.
Gateway Recovery Centre is situated in Widnes, close to Liverpool, Manchester, Chester and surrounding areas. There are excellent transport links, which allows the town to be reachable for those travelling across the North West.
This role is full time and will be set within a well-established service. Gateway Recovery Centre has 70 beds spread across 6 wards. 3 wards constitute the female service providing high quality care to women with complex emotional needs including history of trauma. The other 3 wards provide care to male patients in an autism specialist unit (Cedar ward), low secure ward (Dove ward) and a ward for older men with complex mental health needs and physical health comorbidities (Ash Ward).
There are currently four consultants within the service to support you, and you will have a dedicated supervisor. You will be supported by a physical health team composed of a practice nurse, physical health assistance practitioner and an enhanced GP service.
There is a one in seven first on-call commitment attached to the role.
There is peer support as you will join a network of associate specialists working across the northwest region. There is a well-received programme of regional weekly CPD education to meet your needs. Attendance at external CPD events such as conferences is actively supported. We will also support you with any desire to work towards Section 12 approval. There are opportunities to network with other Associate Specialists working within Elysium Healthcare.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing first line medical input to inpatients (12 bedded acute ward, and 4 rehab beds)
- Participation in a 1 in 7 first- on-call regional medical rota.
- Providing written and oral evidence at Hospital Managers and Tribunal hearings.
- Preparing CPA reports and reports for clinical meetings.
- Working effectively and collaboratively with a MDT.
- Working alongside practice nurse and GP to ensure good quality physical healthcare.
- Assessing new referrals to ensure that the service meets the needs of those who are appropriately admitted.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Full GMC registration
- To be in good standing for CPD with the Royal College of Psychiatrists
- To be linked in with an appraisal process within the last year
- At least 2 years' experience of working in psychiatry in the UK
- Experience working as a doctor within a rehabilitation, forensic or other psychiatric inpatient settings.
- To be available for work no later than 1st week of February 2026.
The following would be desirable:
- MRCPsych part-A and part- B
- Section 12 (2) approval
