We are looking for a consultant in Critical Care and Acute Medicine to join at an exciting time for Hampshire Hospitals Critical Care as we embark on a period of expansion of our rapidly growing service.
We welcome applicants on the Specialist Register for Intensive Care Medicine & Acute Internal Medicine. Applicants with equivalent training as evidenced by possession of Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) are also encouraged to apply.
Our critical care facilities include an 18 bed Critical Care Unit and a busy Acute Medical team covering the full range of DGH medical specialties.
Activity includes on-call activity in Critical Care on a 1:8 frequency, but with potential for activity in Winchester by mutual agreement.
This post offers an opportunity to join the Acute General Medicine team in supporting the delivery of the Trust’s urgent care strategy. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with colleagues across Emergency and Specialist Medicine, Older Persons Services, and Primary Care to provide an efficient and seamless system of care. Key responsibilities include providing consultant-led services on the Acute Medical Assessment Unit with in-reach to the Emergency Department, Short stay unit, supporting rapid same-day emergency and direct GP admission pathways, and contributing to the ongoing development of ambulatory care services.
The post is offered on a 10 PA contract. Critical Care will incorporate at least 4 PA (including on call). Acute Medical sessions will constitute the remaining PAs to make up 8.5 DCC PA’s in a contract totalling 10 PAs.
There is potential for more work in critical care or Acute Medicine up to total 12PA on negotiation. SPA allowance starts at 1.5PA, but we encourage individuals to develop roles and opportunities outside the department, some of which may be recognised in extra SPA time. Like all appointments to the Trust, successful candidates may be required to work at any of the hospital sites if the clinical service requires this.
Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is at the heart of what we do at our three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.
Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement and excellence thrive.
We provide specialist services to people across the UK and internationally. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei (a rare form of abdominal cancer) and we are leaders in the field of tertiary liver cancer and colorectal cancer.
The trust employs more than 9,000 staff and has a turnover of over £500 million a year. As a Foundation Trust, we are directly accountable to our members through the governors.
