About the Role
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Manager to lead and support the delivery of our grounds maintenance service for a period of up to six months.
This is a hands‑on management role, based at our Wade Road Depot, with responsibility for overseeing a large workforce and ensuring high standards across parks, open spaces, and streetscene services. Due to the nature of the role, hybrid working is not available, and site visits will form a regular part of your duties.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the grounds maintenance workforce to deliver high‑quality services.
Ensure operations meet customer expectations and council standards.
Oversee horticulture, building services, and maintenance activities.
Monitor performance, compliance, and safety across sites.
Communicate effectively with staff, stakeholders, and residents.
Quickly adapt to council systems and processes to maintain service continuity.
About You
We are looking for a professional manager who can make an immediate impact. You should have:
A qualification in horticulture or a relevant discipline.
A proven track record of managing a large grounds maintenance workforce.
Strong leadership and communication skills (written and verbal).
A customer‑focused approach with the ability to deliver results.
Flexibility and adaptability to pick up new systems quickly.
A full driving licence (essential for site visits).
Enthusiasm to make a difference, even in a short‑term role.
